Wanda Montemayor, LPC-S, ATCS, ATR-BC, RPT-S (she/her)
Founder / Senior Clinician
Wanda Montemayor is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S), a Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC, ATCS), a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S), an EMDRIA Certified Therapist™, and an Animal-Assisted Counselor (AAC).

As the founder of Community Arts and a lifelong community art therapist, Wanda has been creating large-scale public art since 1998. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Art Education, a master’s degree in Professional Counseling, and a post-master’s degree in Art Therapy. Wanda blends these disciplines to bring people together in healing, connection, and collective creation through community-based art therapy, as well as individual, couples, and family counseling.

Wanda integrates traditional talk therapy with expressive modalities, including art therapy and play therapy, to support all ages and community members alike. She is certified in MARI® (Mandala Assessment Research Instrument) and a trained Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner.

Her public art achievements reflect her deep commitment to healing through creativity. One of her most notable works, the Deep Eddy Mural, engaged youth and community organizations from across the Austin area and took years to complete.

In response to the tragic mass shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, Wanda led a yearlong community-based art therapy project involving over 2,000 participants. The result: a powerful mosaic mural installed in Uvalde’s Jardín de los Héroes Park. The project received grants from the David Rockefeller Fund and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Whether she’s mentoring clinicians, creating healing spaces through public art, or working with clients in private practice, Wanda brings deep empathy, creativity, and cultural awareness to all she does. She believes in weaving a web of artistic care that holds individuals, families, and communities with love and resilience.
